At a Fingal County Council Area Committee meeting in December, County Architect Fionnuala May presented updated proposals for the Casino development on foot of the results of the public consultation.
Extra floor space will be provided versus the original proposal which will allow for a larger exhibition space for the Fry Model Railway exhibit as well as a direct link between the extension & the outhouse building where the small café will be located. These changes are a direct result of some of the issues raised by the public consultation.
The plans as amended will go before the full Council for approval. If approved, the project will go out to tender early in 2017. While progress to date has been slow, this is a huge milestone in delivering what will be a fantastic addition to Fingal’s heritage offering.
The generous bequest from the late Mr Gaffney that helped bring this iconic building into public ownership, at the same time securing a future home for the Fry Model Railway exhibit, will be supplemented by €1,000,000 in direct funding from Fingal County Council.
