Howth, Sutton, Baldoyle and the 1916 Rising Prelude – Insurrection – Aftermath

The Howth, Sutton & Baldoyle 2016 Commemoration Committee are holding the first of a series of commemorative events on Thursday, 3 December at 8pm in The Marine Hotel, Sutton.

The talk will be given by Philip O’Connor, local author and historian, it will last about one hour and will be fully illustrated with many images never seen publicly before.

The talk will recount the extraordinary story of local happenings through a time of World War, the Easter Rising and the movement for National Independence, through the period from 1912 to 1923.

The story has been reconstructed from the press of the time, ‘Witness Statements’ and other records in the National and Military Archives, interviews with many local people with family connections to events of the time, and personal documents and photographs from these families.

The talk will be followed by audience questions and discussion. It promises to be a most entertaining and informative presentation. For more details, please send an email or download the poster.
