Revised Update on Water Restrictions

Revised notice from FCC re water restrictions below.  There may now be some total water loss:

Please see revised notification below in relation to water restrictions for the Fingal area. There is a possibility that some consumers will experience total water loss at some stage over the coming days. However if conservation measures are adopted by consumers during the periods of restriction, the chances of water loss will be minimised.

Wednesday 30 October 2013 : 12.15
Greater Fingal Area:
Because of water issues in the Greater Dublin Area it will be necessary to introduce some severe water pressure restrictions in the Fingal Area.  These restrictions will take place between the hours of 8.00pm to 7.00am on a daily basis.  Some consumers in the Fingal Area may experience total water loss.  However consumers are requested to conserve water as much as possible and especially not to use washing machines, dishwashers, showers etc. during the hours of restriction.  If water is conserved, water tank storage on premises should be adequate.

We apologise to consumers for any inconvenience caused by this disruption.

Maple Trees in Malahide

A lot of people are wondering what the problem is with the maple trees in Malahide as they are dropping a sticky substance and losing their leaves.  FCC Senior Parks Superintendent has told us that this is caused by greenfly feeding on the leaves of the trees and then excreting a sweet substance called honeydew.  This happens every year and doesn’t cause any problem to the tree but it’s more noticeable this year as we haven’t had the usual rainfall to wash it off the leaves.

No doubt we’ll soon have our usual quota of rain and the problem will be solved!

Malahide Shuttle

Following the Forum survey of residents in 2008, in which 85% of respondents said that they would welcome a shuttle bus, we are delighted to confirm that licence approval for a Malahide Shuttle has just been received from the NTA, subject to certain conditions being met.  The Shuttle Project Group, comprising members of the Forum, the Chamber of Commerce, Fingal County Council and Malahide Coaches who will provide the service, will now be working towards the launch.  Malahide Community Forum extends its thanks to the Shuttle Project Group for all its hard work over a very long period to bring this project to fruition.  Keep an eye on the website to get the latest news – www.malahideshuttle.ie
