One of the objectives of the Malahide Community Forum is to encourage ‘Active Travel’, i.e. encourage people to walk and cycle wherever possible. We have to make the roads and streets meet the needs of all users, not just drivers. Priority should be given to pedestrians with adequate pavement space and crossing facilities. Cycle routes should concentrate on providing routes to school and local sporting and other facilities.
Greater use of and access to public transport is also seen as a priority.
The Malahide Community Forum maintains an interest in citywide transport issues and their effect on Malahide. Our aim is to have timetables for all Public Transport serving Malahide which provide services at regular and frequent intervals
We monitor and review public transport schedules and recommend changes on behalf of the Forum to the transport companies. Inputs are also made regarding the routing of services and the suitability of the location of bus stops and their condition. In addition we have lobbied for a continuation of the Metro North to Donabate to facilitate access of Malahide residents to city-wide transport services.
We consider that the introduction of single ticketing for buses and trains would be beneficial and have lobbied for this.
The introduction of a shuttle bus service around the village of Malahide has long been an aspiration. We are very disappointed to report that The Malahide Shuttle Project Group’s appeal to the National Transport Authority when they failed to grant a licence was refused on 27 May 2011. If you would like to read a full update of the current position please go directly to the Malahide Shuttle website.
